At the start of my life in 3D printing I was told by a major plastics processor that they could essentially get plastics to behave anyway they wanted and that ABS and PLA were only scratching the surface of what was possible with 3D printing filament. Companies like colorFabb, Proto-Pasta, Polymaker, Taulman etc have done a great deal to advance the state-of-the-art in 3D printing filament.
One filament producer that is regularly pushing the boundaries is Graphene 3D Lab and the company’s latest material sold through its Blackmagic3D filament store is a functional magnetic filament. Although certainly not the first to offer a magnetic filament, developers at Graphene 3D Lab think that they have perfected this PLA/Iron composite and called it Ferro-Magnetic-PLA.
“As this filament is ideally suited to switches, sensors and actuators, we also expect this new functionality will challenge more traditional manufacturers to examine incorporating more 3D printing technology into their manufacturing processes," said Elena Polyakova, Co-CEO of Graphene 3D
Graphene 3D have massively scaled up the development of its composite 3D printing filaments since launching and this year will see no slowing down.
"We expect 2016 to be a significant year for Graphene 3D in terms of introducing new functional filaments," added Daniel Stolyarov, Co-CEO of Graphene 3D.
