The future looks promising for the world of 3D scanning as a new report claims the market is expected to reach $4.9 billion by 2020.
The report by Allied Market Research profiled several 3D scanning companies to chart the market’s prospects with North America and Europe taking up more than two thirds of the global market share.
The report pinpoints the increase in demand for 3D printers along with the advancement of technology as key factors in the increased potential for the 3D scanning industry.
One company who are focused on listening and responding to the demands of this growing market is Nevercenter, a three-man software development company based in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Nevercenter is the founder of Silo, a focused 3D modelling application with the ability to effortlessly switch between organically sculpting high-polygon models and precisely control hard-edged surfaces. It can be used for anything from exploring 3D architectural ideas to creating 3D characters for video games and movies.
Silo’s latest incarnation, Silo 2.3, has responded to a popular request from consumers by bringing the software to Linux for the first time, a key operating system for both professionals and individuals.
Nevercenter president Tom Plewe, said: “Silo is designed to be lightweight and flexible. We want it to fit as seamlessly as possible into any workflow, and obviously this is a huge step in that direction.”
Developments in China, Japan and India have meant that the 3D printing industry has grown significantly on a global scale with industries such as entertainment, architecture, aerospace and healthcare adopting 3D technology within their sectors.
