Set to make a 3D announcement in June?
It has been one of the biggest news stories of the last 12 months, HP's grand entrance into the 3D printing space. Now two month’s before the company plans to formally split into two companies, one dedicated to selling computing equipment to large companies and the second to focus on personal computing and printing businesses, the tech giant has announced a shake up to its leadership team.
With significant changes across the board there is a key emphasis on the printing side of the business, particularly its 3D printing venture.
With the company’s first 3D printer product set to launch next year, HP’s new 3D printing business will be headed by Steve Nigro, currently head of HP’s printing business. In an internal memo, Dion Weisler, head of HP’s PC and printing division, laid out plans for HP’s new 3D printing business group and centre of excellence which will enable the company to establish itself as a leader within the prototyping and 3D production market through technology, products and services.
“When we announced our plans to separate, we knew that 3D printing would be a key area of innovation and growth for HP Inc.,” Weisler explained in the memo. “Our company is positioned perfectly to take advantage of our sophisticated intellectual property and know-how to transform industries and power the next industrial revolution.”
HP’s Multi Jet Fusion technology is expected to officially launch in 2016 to address the speed, quality and cost of 3D printing. The company has already formed several key partnerships with industry leaders such as Autodesk and Shapeways to better understand the technology and needs of the industry. In addition to this, the company was also one of the first names to join the 3MF Consortium, a team of leading industry names behind the recently introduced 3MF file format for 3D printing.
HP's J. Scott Schiller, Worldwide Director of 3D Printing will present a keynote presentation at this year's TCT Show + Personalize on 30th September at 10.45am, sharing the story of the company's journey into the 3D printing market and its vision for the future. REGISTER FOR FREE HERE.
