Photoshop CC Update
Just six months ago, Adobe announced its move from 2D to 3D printing software and today revealed its third enhancement to Photoshop CC which now includes compatibility with more 3D printers and support for additional file formats.
The aim is to make it easier to create 3D designs with a more efficient workflow by offering additional options for users, streamlined 3D painting experience and the ability to combine multiple print jobs into a single bed.
The software will now support two more printers, the MakerBot Replicator 5th Generation desktop printer and the DMM.com 3D print service from Japan. In addition to its current recognised file formats, Photoshop CC will now support more file types including VRML, U3D, PLY and IGES.
One of the most exciting enhancements comes in the form of the new 3D painting experience, which will allow designers to paint 3D objects much more easily. Since January, several artists and designers such as sculptor Sophie Kahn, architect Tobias Klein and jeweller Jessica Searfino, have adopted Photoshop’s 3D features in their work.
Bradley Rothenberg, co-founder of Bradley Rothenberg studio, which specialises in 3D printed textiles and accessories, said: “The 3D printing features in Adobe Photoshop CC unifies what used to take roughly 15 steps in several different programs into one easy-to-use program – condensing our workflow significantly. Our experience with using Photoshop in 2D is something we can easily leverage now with 3D models, with is incredibly helpful. I can’t wait to se what Adobe does next.”
