New Matter 3D Printer
New Matter has just completed a rather impressive campaign on crowd-funding site Indiegogo to launch a new line of low cost 3D printers with end-to-end functionality, New Matter MOD-t.
The campaign reached its goal of $375,000 within two days of launching after bidders pledged anything from $5 to $2490 in exchange for various perks on the site.
New Matter partnered with Frog, one of the world's leading design firms, in a bid to make 3D printing as easy as the way we communicate with an end-to-end 3D printing system that makes 3D printing and communicating as easy as sending a text message.
To make this idea of a 3D community a reality, the machine includes unique software with access to a store full of designs created by 3D artists. Users will be able to manipulate ready-made designs using simple software similar to that of photo editor, Instagram, allowing the freedom to create unique items without expert knowledge of 3D technology.
The printer has been designed to integrate into every day life with the intention to make 3D printing accessible in homes, schools and offices at a competitively low price of $249 for both the machine and software.
With support from 3,551 pledgers, New Matter almost doubled their suggested target and set out a list of new goals with suggestions from backers, including developing the software to be compatible with Mac OSX.
New Matter MOD-t will be piloted in December and go into production in February 2015.
