How many people call the Port-A-Potty company before the caterer? Some things are just more fun to think about than others. In the same breath, who is really thinking about waste removal with 3D printing? Pretty much no one. 3D printing is a colossal leap forward in waste reduction from traditional manufacturing. Postprocess Technologies knows that there is still great room for improvement.
A popular legend remains associated with the late Steve Jobs. He was given the prototype for the first iPod and told his team it was too big. To prove his point he dropped the iPod into an aquarium and pointed to the bubbles escaping from it. “That means there’s space in there. Make it smaller.” Steve Jobs knew there was still great room for improvement.
Currently, 3D printing creates support materials that need to be removed post-printing. These materials can take a long time to remove, requiring hands on attention.
Postprocess Technologies focuses on improving this system. They have partnered with SharperTek, a leading manufacturer of American made ultrasonic equipment, to produce the 2nd generation of the closed-loop support removal system. This system makes the waste removal safe and more efficient. Imagine when the dishwasher was first introduced to homeowners. Similar efficiencies and benefits will now be available to manufacturers.
Postprocess Technologies has also signed an agreement with Hammond Roto-Finish of Kalamazoo, Michigan. This agreement will allow for the distribution of vibratory surface finishing machines, abrasive belt polishing equipment, and related supplies to the 3D printing and additive manufacturing industry. This relationship allows Postprocess Technologies to further service customers and improve upon the 3D printing experience.
It would be easy to relax and celebrate the vast improvements 3D printing has created in the manufacturing industry. That’s not how great innovations happen, though. Sometimes you have to focus on the waste first.
