Renishaw's new deal allows it to use BEGO's patents for dental applications.
Renishaw has teamed up with a German company that specialises in dental prosthodontics in a deal that aims to further develop the use of additive manufacturing in orthodontic applications.
The British firm has concluded an agreement with BEGO Bremer Goldschlägerei Wilh Herbst GmbH & Co KG that licenses Renishaw to use BEGO patents for additive manufacturing in dental applications.
Bremen-headquartered BEGO has a solid reputation for making significant investments in research and development and facilitating the furthering of technologies.
In the growing digital CAD/CAM solutions market, BEGO is a pioneer in additive manufacturing processes for the dental sector, in which it holds numerous patents.
The new licensing agreement between Renishaw and BEGO will facilitate the former to fortify its existing dental operations on a global scale.
Managing partner of BEGO Christoph Weiss said the organisation is "delighted" with the deal and described the company as "innovative and strong".
BEGO launched additive manufacturing technologies in the dental industry back in 2001, with the process allowing the production of precision mental parts direct from 3D CAD data in a layer-building technique that removes many of the design limitations and waste associated with conventional subtractive milling processes.
Renishaw's group engineering director Geoff McFarland said: "This is an important agreement for Renishaw which allows us to sell and utilise our own additive manufacturing machines for dental market applications, and gives our customers access to important patents from BEGO which is a leader in this field. It also comes at a time when we are introducing a range of innovative processes for the manufacture of dental structures."
Dr Thomas Kosin, technical director of BEGO added: "The licence agreement with Renishaw underlines BEGO's approach to create win-win-solutions in the dental sector and therefore merchandise our patent portfolio successfully."
