Renishaw Young Engineers
Young engineers could be in with a chance of winning a place on an exciting industry placement.
Additive manufacturing specialist Renishaw is on the lookout for passionate youngsters for a week's experience within the thriving engineering sector.
The Renishaw Engineering Experience is a five-day package of activities that will give six lucky students in full-time education the chance to get stuck into this bustling industry, where they will be taken behind the scenes to meet some of the engineers who are actively changing the marketplace.
Engineers are at the forefront of cutting edge breakthroughs, with their work concerning everything from jet engines and wind turbines, to games consoles, F1 cars and mobile phones.
It is the role of the engineer to help tackle global challenges including climate change, health and energy security and today, these professionals are in great demand in the UK, as there is a shortage of such experts forecast for the coming years.
As such, there has arguably never been a better time to consider a career in engineering.
The Renishaw Engineering Experience will take place in June of this year and, as well as the actual cost of the five-day package, the selected students will also receive assistance with their travel to and from the site.
The fully-escorted experience includes visits to well-known engineering companies, service providers and heritage sites and promises to be an inspiring and potentially life-changing experience that promises to be fun as well as educational.
Renishaw is one of the most thriving workplaces a young engineer can be involved in at the moment, as they will get the chance to shadow employees carrying out interesting and ground-breaking work in an environment that promotes innovation.
The business specialises in metrology - the science of measurement - and its products ensure all companies around the world are able to improve the efficiency and quality of their processes, whether manufacturing metal components or carrying out neurosurgery.
Among Renishaw's diverse client list are companies that manufacture the engines for jet aircraft, high performance F1 cars and motorbikes, as well as companies that research the early detection of cancers and make dentures.
How can I apply?
Full-time students aged between 16 and 18 studying for their A Levels, BTEC, Highers or Baccalaureate can apply.
To be considered, all they need to do is explain in 400 words why they are passionate about pursuing a career in engineering, what they have achieved so far and how they feel they would benefit from being selected to participate in the experience.
Closing date for submissions is March 31st 2013 and interested students can download the application form from this website and apply to projects@youngeng.org.
Selection interviews will take place in April. Best of luck!
