Neiman Marcus & Shapeways
Shapeways Neiman Marcus
Shapeways, one of the biggest 3D printing communities and marketplaces in the industry, has joined forces with luxury department store Neiman Marcus to launch a 3D-printed gift shop.
Now Christmas shoppers can select from a range of unusual present options for themselves or loved ones thanks to this innovative partnership, which launched yesterday (October 31st) allowing consumers to browse a limited edition holiday collection for the first time from both household name brands.
Chief Merchant at Neiman Marcus Direct Gerald Barnes said: "Neiman Marcus is known for offering shoppers the very best selection of gifts during the holiday season. Through our partnership with Shapeways, we are adding a cutting-edge, yet fashionable twist to this year's offerings."
The collection consists of two pieces available in Shapeways' high-quality 3D-printed metal finishes including; the customisable Monogrammed Silver Heart Pendant Necklace, a twist on a classic pendant designed by Roger Pearce made with Shapeways 3D printing technology and finished by hand; and the Orb Stainless Steel Sculpture, a "statement piece" designed by Bathsheba Grossman made from a fluid shape brought to life by Shapeways 3D printing. Grossman says of the sculpture: "This piece is essential equipment for anyone living in 3-dimensional space. Its twisted double-tetrahedron is the simplest and most deeply symmetrical of its family."
Shoppers can purchase products from the limited collection through the Neiman Marcus website and once placed, the piece will be printed and shipped from Shapeways' factory in Long Island City. Customers will have their very own 3D-printed item within three weeks.
Director of Marketing at Shapeways Carine Carmy said: "We are thrilled to partner with Neiman Marcus on this limited edition collection, which marks their very first collaboration with a 3D Printing company.
"We believe that the future of retail is 3D-printed and we're excited to work with Neiman Marcus to make this goal a reality through these beautiful, custom products."
Barnes added: "3D printing technology opens up a whole new world of possibilities for beautiful, on-demand gifts. While what we are making available this season is just one of millions of such possibilities, we could think of no better partner to work with on our first foray into this space than Shapeways, the leader in 3D printing."
