Star Prototype has again demonstrated the scope and quality of its service by delivering tooling and prototypes for Norwegian communication specialist, Zenitel.
The company manufactures specialised intercom communication systems for the integrated security and shipping markets and called in Star during the development of its new Stentofon and Vingtor Turbine compact IP and analogue substations.
In 10 days, Star developed the tools and machined the prototypes using Aluminium, PMMA, and PC - a process that involved the aqua blasting of some aluminium components and the natural anodising of others, plus the laser etching of the logo.
The main challenge for the company, was the requirement for different finishes on the two products, both of which used the same PMMA cover. Both needed 50 percent translucency, but in different parts of the prototype and using different colours.
While the Stentofon prototype was able to be polished, painted and then silk screened, the Vingtor Prototype required a different approach due to the fact that it would have had an adverse effect on the yellow finish. As such, Star silk screened the yellow and then silk screened the 50 per cent translucent black text.
Simon Kjellberg, a product manager for Zenitel in Norway, said: ''having not worked with Star before I was extremely impressed by the level of service and the quality of prototype produced. They certainly live up to their promise of delivering Western quality, so much so that we've already placed additional work with them.''
