TUV NORD, a German technical service provider, is to offer testing and certification services with SAP Distributed Manufacturing, a cloud application helping manufacturers and suppliers of additive manufacturing collaborate.
SAP Distributed Manufacturing is a platform designed to bring together industry players and the experts of 3D printing technology. It encourages their collaboration, in open or private working environments, to find solutions to fit a customer’s requirements. TUV NORD comes into the process to audit the processes of 3D printing service providers within the network.
The German company is the first certifier to partner with SAP Distributed Manufacturing, and on announcing the cooperation with its newest partner, was keen to highlight the importance of certification with regards to AM processes.
“Additive manufacturing is still a relatively new topic for many companies, particularly SMEs, but offers enormous potential for prototypes and small series, special tools and spare parts,” said Ulf Theike, General Manager of TUV NORD Systems. “For customers in the industry, it’s very important that the manufactured components are of consistently high quality to be safely and reliably used. That’s why companies that are as still new to the sector use the certification of their quality management to prove dependable processes.”
Now, when using the SAP Distributed Manufacturing network, manufacturers will be offered a quality management certification. To begin with, TUV NORD will be offering ISO 9001, EN 9001 and IATF 16949 certifications. The range of TUV NORD services will be extended, with further additive manufacturing specific certification set to follow.
