X-Truder dual 3D print head.
They say two heads are better than one so when you have the power of two print nozzles in one print head that can only be a good thing.
Praxis3D has launched the X-Truder, a dual nozzle 3D printing head assembly on Kickstarter aimed at makers, tinkerers and hobbyists who want more out of their desktop machine.
Based in El Paso, a team of FDM enthusiasts have spent the last year working on the device primarily because as makers themselves, they were not interested in the other options available on the market. Lightweight and compact, the head contains two all-metal extruders analysed using thermal modelling and capable of working with a range of materials including ABS, PC and HIPS.
Both filaments are driven by a compact stepper motor to force the material through a fixed pinch wheel gap. For easy loading and unloading, the drive system disengages itself from inactive filament to prevent jamming the pathways whilst a servo driven extruder lifting mechanism has also been added to tackle nozzle drag and collisions whilst printing.
Praxis3D has designed the extruder with the intention for makers to come in and design their own printer accessories, therefore, the team have incorporated extra circuits into the 18inch long ribbon cable and bright LEDs to support the addition of fans, endstops and levelling probes.
For easy mounting, Praxis3D designed the X-Truder with a Klix mounting bracket. David Williams, Praxis3D team member explained: “We wanted to simplify the mounting of our head so we designed a magnetic bracket to accommodate most every scenario. We also found an added benefit was that common situations like head and bed collisions were easily survivable.”
The Kickstarter campaign has a target of $100,000 and ends on 30th November.
