As the 3D printing community continues to grow we’re seeing more designers shake off the shackles of traditional manufacturing and become enabled with new ways of producing their designs.
Two such designers are Ney York-based Italians Barbara Busatta and Dario Buzzini. The pair, who run creative agency ICOSAEDRO have created a series of open-source houseware products available for you to order or print at home.
Machine Series aims to collaborate 3D Printing with simple, subtle, and unobtrusively beautiful designs in the spirit of the Japanese design principle of Shibui.
“The goal of Machine Series is to craft simplicity out of complexity - to create restrained, subtle, and unobtrusive beauty through the optimisation of outstanding manufacturing techniques, no matter how simple or complex they are.”
The pair have become increasingly frustrated at the gap between amateurish 3D printing and over-expensive artistic impressions of the technology. So they have set out to create a useful simplistic 3D printable design that will look good even if you print it at home.
The jagged edge of the containers should mean that the surface quality of the prints look good, deceiving the eye on the layers one can see when you print something straight up.
