Manufacturing solutions provider Jabil has announced an agreement with the Renault F1 Team to 3D print parts for use in the 2019 Formula One World Championship series. The cooperation is intended to speed up the development and delivery of 3D printed racecar parts for the Renault R.S.19. According to Jabil, the Renault F1 Team will benefit from the Jabil Additive Manufacturing Network, which provides “fast and efficient access to top-quality parts”.
“We’re excited to be part of Renault F1 Team’s strategy to improve performance with additive manufacturing,” said John Dulchinos, VP of digital manufacturing at Jabil. “Our ability to consolidate a global supply chain and scale qualified processes as needed will enable the production of chassis and on-car components in record time.”
The Renault F1 Team is an early adopter of 3D printing technology and continually seeks to produce lightweight parts without compromising part strength or integrity. Antoine Magnan, Head of Partnerships at Renault Sport Racing, commented: “Every single aspect of what we do is geared towards excellence. We look forward to taking advantage of Jabil’s growing ecosystem of certified materials, processes and machines to boost parts availability and overall productivity.”
Recent expansions to the Jabil Additive Manufacturing Network have been geared towards meeting the needs of highly regulated industries such as the automotive and healthcare sectors. The company has added capacity to its manufacturing facility in Auburn Hills near Detroit to support growth in these industries. The facility is ISO 13485 certified and offers access to high-speed sintering, selective laser sintering and fused filament fabrication machines.
The expansion in capacity is complemented by Jabil Engineered Materials, a branch of the company dedicated to developing custom materials for additive manufacturing that are produced in accordance with ISO 9001 standards. As part of its open-systems approach, Jabil works with the most advanced 3D printers from industry leaders including Desktop Metal, EOS, Farsoon, HP and Ultimaker.
