Damilola Odusote and Modla Converse collaboration
Jon Fidler, founder of specialist 3D design and consultant studio Modla, has collaborated for a second time with London based 2D artist, Damilola Odusote.
The two were recently commissioned by Converse to produce a 3D printed piece which tells the story of the iconic Chuck Taylor All Star. The result is a 3D concept shoe design bursting with guitars, basketball nets and fighter jets.
They began by researching the brand’s identity which led to discovering its use in supplying WW2 fighter jet pilots, its iconic links with basketball culture and its integral role in rock and roll.
Taking inspiration from these cultures, Damilola worked on a 2D sketch version which incorporates as facets of the Chuck Taylor story. From this sketch, Jon was able to create a digital version in 3D modelling software which was then 3D printed using SLS nylon plastic.
This is the second footwear themed design the artists have collaborated on. Earlier this year, the pair joined forces on a conceptual sculpture for the Nike Air Force 1 to bring this iconic footwear to life. Seeking inspiration form the Nike Air Force 1’s history, they came up with a design using imagery that has become symbolic of the brand.
