Four friends who share a passion for what 3D printing is capable of achieving in the world have decided to focus 100% into forming a new open source 3D printer company.
David, a machinist and industrial engineer, Nathan, the team’s industrial designer, Courtney who specializes in interior design and Chelsea who is majoring in communications have decided to launch their 3D printer company on Kickstarter.com. The world’s largest funding platform for creative projects has already seen $16,182 pledged to them by their 176 backers (at the time of writing).
Chelsea Thompson states that: ’‘we want to be as Open-Source as possible with our ideas… Every product we sell will be available as individual components. I hope that being able to buy a single part of the extruder of 3D printer will help spur innovation.’’ The four friends will also be releasing dimensioned drawings in .PDF format, so everyone, including those without expensive design software, are able to read the files.
Chelsea also goes on to say that: ‘’We want to get 3D printers into as many people’s hands as possible and we can’t think of a better way to do it than by reducing the upfront cost without sacrificing quality.’’
By offering an extremely high quality extruder at a price point lower than anything on the market, the team hope that its first product to be released will help lower the overall price of all the 3D printers available.
