Kwok 3D Printed Visor
For Kay Kwok's Fall Winter 2014 collection, the British-based Hong Kong designer spent time researching dimensional space on Earth and the Milky Way and clashed those with shocking reports of extra-terrestrial activity.
To achieve some of the more complex and striking designs Kwok enlisted the help of the Buckinghamshire-based AM bureau Graphite Additive Manufacturing.
Kay initially approached Graphite after seeing the wide range of materials and applications on the company website, to seek help and advice in building the two large body pieces which he had envisioned for his latest menswear collection, to be debuted at London’s Victoria House.
Seeing the potential in the project, Graphite’s managing director, Kevin Lambourne, agreed to a sponsorship arrangement, with the company producing both the body pieces and also a range of visors some incorporating brims and some without, to augment Kay’s other designs.
The visor components were 3D printed using stereolithography (SLA) in Graphite’s transparent ABS-like material and then painted or tinted as appropriate for their usage.
The large body pieces were each finished in a different chameleon type, colour changing paint to give a more celestial look.
Vogue featured designer Kwok is certainly a one to look out for if not for the description of the Fall Winter 2014 collection at all:
FW 2014 IT IS NOT A FAKE STORY'
Reports of mutilated cows, alien abduction with unexplained body marks, unidentified flying object witnesses...they are not fake stories, but conspiracy of extra terrestrials! What do 'they' want from us?''
It’s an exciting starting point of KAY KWOK's FW 2014 collection. applying the research on dimensional space on Earth and Galaxy plus the shocking reports on extra terrestrials, Kay developed a wide range of intriguing designs: his signature, imaginative prints, embroidery designs and more in this FW 2014 for his boys
