As more people invest in 3D desktop printers naturally the demand for filament has increased exponentially. Previously, to get your hands on filament you’d have to visit a specialist online store, it was available in a few colours and still fairly pricey.
It appears as if large stationery retailers have spotted the need to get serious about 3D printers. Staples recently announced that they will be bringing Mcor’s Iris printer into stores offering an in-store 3D printing service. Today a leading supplier of data, video and archival publishing solutions Media Supply Inc. announced they will be selling filament in a variety of colours.
Although for now Media Supply Inc. are only stocking ABS and not PLA filament they have launched with a very impressive 18 colours at the fairly reasonable price of $31 a kilo. Colours include all the usual suspects as well as some glow-in-the-dark filament. They say that the filament is of the highest manufactured quality and works at a wide 3D printer extruder temperature range.
We’re certain that all the major retailers will follow suit and then a price war can begin and we’ll be left will cheaper filament, fingers crossed.
