Ouya
MakerBot are rolling out partnerships at a rate of knots; from coupling with Nokia to print customisable Lumia cases, to getting into bed with Autodesk’s 123D series. In a move that mirrors the Lumia collaboration, MakerBot have now paired with Android based games console Ouya to print personalized covers.
The OUYA game console was the 3Doodler of 2012, a runaway Kickstarter success. The campaign, launched in July year, set out to raise $950,000 for their open-source games console, after the 30 days they’d got funding just under the $9million mark!
Aiming to bring independent gaming back to our television screens away from tablets and mobile phones. Suggesting that the big hitters in the current games console world restrict development to indies, the Ouya is completely open source and games are completely free to try.
The 3D printable cover templates are available for you to download on Thingiverse, customize to however you see fit and then print off, the settings are optomised for MakerBot’s Replicator 2. MakerBot CEO Bre Pettis was particularly enthusiastic about the project, "Ouya is one of the most exciting new developments in the gaming world, and MakerBot is thrilled to be a part of it. The custom 3D printed console cases are also really cool."
