Quin - Kickstarter Video
The guys at 3DKitBash.com are forever testing the limits of our desktop 3D printers, they first came into the maker consciousness when they developed the excellent 3D Printer Test Kit and got over four times the required funding on Kickstarter. Well now they’re back with another project that pushes the boundaries of what you 3D printer is capable of printing, a fully functional fashion doll.
QUIN - presumably named after the creator Quincy Robinson - is inspired by the 50-year-old gold standard in doll making, Ruth Handler’s Barbie Doll, all with a modern twist. The doll has been designed so as it can be printed over and over again on an FDM machine, the parts have been designed to clip together easily and most-importantly for a current 3D print, without the need for any support material.
The doll was-inspired by the lack of standardisation across the 12 major fashion doll brands, 3DKitBash hope that with the click of a button if you want Barbie shoes to fit on a Sindy dress then QUIN can solve this issue by 3D printing different combination of profiles.
When the 25 customisable parts of QUIN are fitted together the model stands at 11 inches tall and is fully posable. Bearing many similar characteristics as the dolls that inspire her, QUIN snaps together with consummate ease and wears clothes like an experienced super model.
The project is now on Kickstarter and 3DKitBash are after $10,000 o complete the project and the 3D model of the doll is available from $55.
