TCT Group Editor, Daniel O’Connor speaks to Lukas Grillmayer, Masters student at the Technical University of Munich and creator of Roboy, a 3D printed humanoid robot. Roboy has been in development for the last four years and is designed to mimic the human musculoskeletal system to produce replicate life-like human movement.
This undeniably cute robot was built in nine months using EOS’ sintering technology for roughly 100 parts and incorporates touch sensors to enable Roboy to detect people and even show emotion.
Further development is happening back at a lab in Frankfurt where the Roboy team is working on functional legs to allow him to walk and also artificial intelligence so that he might one day be able to have meaningful conversation.
