A bit of a stumble for 3DLT this week as what appears to be placeholder data (which would be used internally by the dev team) was made public through the 3D printing marketplaces aplha-test-phase website. Wired magazine broke the story that 3DLT was featuring designs that it did not have permission to use after it picked up a story from Jessica Rosenkrantz — Co-Founder of Nervous System.
In addition it appears that although the site had not been officially launched it was available to the public and was even conducting transactions, though it didn't actually provide the STL files as it should.
As debate rages in the comments of the original WIRED posting as to whether or not the mistake was a mistake or something more malicious... either way the story highlights the heightened sense of awareness about protection of IP for physical objects in the digital world.
