Following the announcement of our Aerospace Application shortlist yesterday, the shortlist for TCT Automotive Application Award has been revealed.
Set to be presented at the inaugural TCT Awards next month, the award recognises the most innovative uses of 3D technologies in the automotive space from printed tools to end-use parts.
Below is the shortlist for the TCT Automotive Application Award 2017. Each of these submissions will be sent in full to a selection of the TCT Expert Advisory Board. The board compromises many disciplines, and we will be splitting the categories between those who are best placed to judge particular categories.
The winners will be announced on the evening of the awards which will take place on 27th September (evening of TCT Show day two) at the Birmingham Town Hall. The event will be hosted by Robert Llewellyn, best known as Kryten from cult sci-fi sitcom Red Dwarf.
TCT Automotive Application Award 2017 - Shortlist
Audi - Mission to the Moon
Audi and PTScientist aim to become the first private entities to explore the moon. To do this, they’ve built the Audi Lunar Quattro, with 3D printed metal wheels it is 20% lighter than its predecessor.
Daimler - Replacement Bus Parts
Using EOS SLS systems and DyeMansion’s post-processing techniques Daimler Buses can swiftly realise customer needs. Daimler is now 3D printing both replacement parts and special feature requests on a daily basis, saving considerable time and money.
Mcor - Honda Carbon Fibre Mould
After trying many 3D printing techniques, Honda found Mcor’s heat resistance and pressure strength most suitable for building moulds for carbon fibre reinforced plastic parts.
Stratasys - McLaren F1
With the support of Stratasys, McLaren was able to deploy 3D printing solutions to rapidly produce race-ready parts for the MCL32 F1 car.
Ultimaker - VW Custom Tools
The Volkswagen Autoeuropa plant in Portugal is now using desktop Ultimaker machines directly on the assembly floor. The jigs and fixtures it produces have saved up to 95% in cost and are considered best practice across the VW Group.
