HYREL 3DP

Hyrel 3D File
Kickstarter is once again the platform of choice for the latest entry-level 3D printer to make its way into the public consciousness. The HYREL 3D printer project was launched on Kickstarter five days ago and, style-wise at least, is reminiscent of the UP in terms of framework. It is also supplied fully assembled. The brainchild of Daniel Hutchison & co, based in Atlanta in the US, the HYREL is the result of several frustrations experienced with entry level 3D printers, most significantly: “We experienced first hand from the high and low end priced 3D printer kits, that they require a significant amount of TLC to get them to print. And even more to get them to continue to print reliably …” According to the small team engineers and designers behind this project, the aim of HYREL is to overcome these issues by addressing the five key questions 3D printer users ask when looking to purchase a system:
Is it a kit or assembled?
Does it empoy single or dual head extrusion?
What is the resolution?
What size is the build area?
Aesthetics. (Well, that’s not a question exactly, but it is an important issue apparently.)
No mention of materials at this point, but probably because there is nothing new here — ABS and PLA.
The project title is “Professional, Industrial-grade, Out-of-the-box ready, Highly Reliable, High-Value 3D Printer”.
Closely followed by the byline: “A rugged all-metal 3D printer pre-assembled and tested.”
The project is doing well, after five days, nine backers have pledged in excess of $20,000 of the $50,000 funding target, suggesting that the HYREL system is hitting the right notes with the target audience. The basic assembled 3D printer, with a single extruder head is available for a pledge of $1,395, while the dual extruder head model requires a pledge of $1,645. Both of these come with a build area of 150x150x200 mm. For $1,995 or $2,245 backers can get the single and dual extruder head 3D printers respectively but with a build area of 200x200x200 mm. And then there is the $3,500 option, which will see backers in receipt of PS888 HYREL system the same as the $2,245 model above but with 4 lbs of ABS and 2 lbs of PLA filament together with the standard (optional) enclosure and the ultrasonic wash tank.
HYREL Features at a glance:
Pre-assembled (NOT A KIT!) to save the user time, money and hassle.
Fully tested to ensure quality, reliability, and accuracy.
Rugged metal chassis made of steel and aluminum.
Precise motion control.
Single or Dual "Hot-Head" extruders — specifically a hot-swap interchangeable mounting system. Both extruder heads can be removed and replaced in less than a minute, even if the tips are operating at the extruding temperature. The interchangeable mounting system was inspired by other industrial mounting systems used in heavy-duty machine tools.
A quick filament change system.
High Resolution
Choice of two build area sizes – 150x150x200 mm or 200x200x200 mm.
Proprietary software - no need to download, research, and test multiple firmware and software packages to make the HYREL 3D Printer to work. The firmware will ship pre-flashed.
Optional Standardized Enclosure
Optional Ultrasonic Wash Tank - used to remove PLA from ABS parts.
The project is scheduled to close 5th November 2012, with estimated delivery of the HYREL systems in December 2012. The video on the Kickstarter page is recommended viewing.
