It’s older than you think, is 3D printing, the idea of building objects up layer-by-layer stretches back further than even 3D Systems’ Chuck Hull. There’s this patent from 1979 by Ross F. Housholder, which states: “In each layer, prior to the deposition of the next layer, a portion of its area is solidified to define that portion of the article in that layer. Selective solidification of each layer may be accomplished by using heat and a selected mask or by using a controlled heat scanning process." – sounds familiar doesn’t it?
