3D printing glasses frames are all the rage; check out any of the big 3D model marketplaces like Thingiverse or Cubify and you’ll see a raft of spectacle shaped designs but there’s a problem; lenses.
What’s the point of glasses without lenses? In fact, I’d go as far as saying that they’re not glasses without lenses, merely shapes for your face. A Dutch company are looking to solve this ill with their expansive range of lenses for 3D printed glasses.
Eyewear Kit offer a selection of lightweight polymer frames with an option of 11 shapes of lenses each with 17 varieties of colours, prescription, gradients and transitions all in an array of sizes. All lenses are designed to snap into place with the sunglass lenses all conforming to international UV protection standards.
If you are interested in designing your own frames but have nowhere to start Eyewear Kit offer free downloads of the lens sizes and shapes so as you can work around those dimensions when designing in CAD. As a frame designer there’s also a widget to embed the lens variations into your own website in order for customers to order from the vast variations offered by Eyewear Kit.
Eyewear Kit don’t just stop at the lens either there’s also a selection frames from one of 3D printing’s most celebrated designers. Michael Cornelissen’s fans include Bre Pettis and his One In A Million Bird 3D printed ring is one of the more recognisable 3D prints. Eyewear Kit have three of Cornelissen’s designs on their store, all with lenses to fit.
