3D Systems has introduced two new software platforms for the inspection and manufacture of production parts at EMO Hannover 2017.
Demonstrating the capabilities of both at the manufacturing trade show, Geomagic Control X 2018 is the inspection platform which addresses the unique requirements of parts in sectors, like aerospace, and the GibbsCAM 12 has been developed to increase productivity for CNC programmers.
Geomagic Control X 2018 in a follow on from 3D System’s Geomagic Control 2015 software, users of the old platform are able to import legacy files to store and continue old projects. With the same ease-of-use, per a 3D Systems’ press release, the 2018 version also provides integrated capabilities, such as automated airfoil analysis, surface analysis tools, and comparative analysis tools. Other new features and benefits include a 50% reduction calculation time by up to 50%, enabling faster analysis; a supposed greater performance in scan processing and evaluation; and an automatic scan-pair searching functionality which operates in the background during inspection.
With Geomagic Control X 2018, users quickly import, align and compare files, and its model-based Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) assignment workflows, in combination with fast scan-pair searching, ensures a quicker model set-up and evaluation. Users can also scan, evaluate and communicate inspection results with newly customisable and intuitive reports. The background scan-pair searching enables users to view, edit and report, ultimately gaining a better understanding of the connection between measurement and reference models.
Meanwhile, the GibbsCAM 12 platform offers a high-quality interface designed specifically for CNC programming; 15,000 post-processors; Multi-Task Machining (MTM) programming capabilities, all within a single application.
The fast and efficient platform, with the 15,000 post processors – a post processor for ‘virtually every machine/ control combination on the market’ – enables users to produce parts to customers’ specifications in quick-time. GibbsCAM 12’s MTM option delivers programming capabilities appropriate for the most complex machines, including attachments like part catchers, vises, and robots. Universal Kinematic Machining (UKM) technology brings greater flexibility and configurability to deal with machines with large numbers of spindles and axes.
3D Systems believes by offering these functionalities within the same interface, as well as its wide-ranging inspection proficiencies via the Geomagic Control X platform, it has sufficiently catered to its customers wants and needs.
“We continue to listen to customer feedback to provide the highest standard of excellence in additive and subtractive manufacturing solutions,” said Ilan Erez, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Software at 3D Systems. “[These] introductions emphasise our continuing pursuit to deliver industry leading software that makes customer’s jobs easier – enabling them to be more productive with lower total cost of operations.”
