SpaceClaim has announced that it has signed a deal to be acquired by leading engineering simulation software provider ANSYS.
Since its inception, SpaceClaim stated that its focus has been on giving engineers the powerful tools they need to make their jobs easier by developing the first truly intuitive 3D modeling solution, putting the power of geometry creation and manipulation into their hands.
Ever since, SpaceClaim has been working to expand its capabilities into new areas such as sheet metal and 3D printing, committing to listening to its growing customer base, delivering innovative, high-quality products.
This mission echoes that of ANSYS, which has been helping engineers and manufacturers predict the behavior and performance of their innovations for more than four decades. Not only is this acquisition a continuation of SpaceClaim’s customer-focused strategy of providing intuitive and powerful tools to engineers, but ANSYS' resources will support SpaceClaim's raison d'etre.
SpaceClaim stated the deal will help get SpaceClaim Engineer onto more desks and will lend the company the resources it needs to continue to innovate and create cutting-edge products for customers.

We will continue to develop enhancements our customers have requested and continue to innovate to bring quality products and solutions to the market. Going forward, we will continue to develop, support and innovate for SpaceClaim Engineer and its modules. In fact, with ANSYS’ resources behind us, we will be in a better position to deliver industry-changing products faster than we have been before.

Absolutely. One of the main reasons for ANSYS’ interest in us is SpaceClaim’s ability to extend their reach into new markets. If we develop solutions for your market today, we will continue to do so in the future.

How does this affect SpaceClaim licensing?
There are no plans to change any licensing agreements or policies because of the acquisition.
How does this change SpaceClaim Engineer’s openness?
SpaceClaim has always pursued a CAD-neutral approach.
ANSYS will remain an open platform even as it enables its customers to edit and modify geometries using SpaceClaim Engineer, regardless of the system in which they were created.
