Simulation in seconds with Ansys Discovery Live
ANSYS, an engineering simulation software developer, has agreed to expand the use of Polygonica Polygon Modelling Software toolkit in its Discovery software products.
Polygonica, which won MachineWorks the 2017 TCT Technology Innovation Software Award, will be used in ANSYS’ latest 3D Design product, ANSYS Discovery Live, which was brought to market last September as part of a tech preview initiative. This tool allows the fast computation of CAE analysis, and shortens the feedback loop between design and analysis. The user can get results immediately during the conceptual design process, rather than having to wait days, weeks or months, and ultimately bring products to market faster.
Meanwhile, ANSYS’ Discovery SpaceClaim software will also continue to utilise the Polygonica module. Polygonica was initially used mainly in additive manufacturing workflows but the SpaceClaim team helped progress the Polygonica functionality to support more generic polygon-based CAD functionality. It was the origin of a fruitful relationship between the two software developers, which is set to benefit all parties, ANSYS, MachineWorks and the customer base.
“We are very excited that ANSYS has seen the potential for using Polygonica across their product range and we fully expect they will be driving us to deliver solutions to even more challenging polygon-based geometry problems,” commented Dr Fenqiang Lin, Managing Director of MachineWorks.
“The agreement with MachineWorks enables ANSYS to provide the industry-leading faceted modelling capabilities of Polygonica more broadly to our customers,” added Justin Hendrickson, director, product management at ANSYS. “Our recent release of ANSYS Discovery Live brings simulation to every engineer through remarkable ease of use and dramatic speed – Polygonica extends the included geometry editing to faceted data beyond traditional CAD.”
