Artec 3D has announced its Co-Founder, Andrey Klimov, has sold his 30% stake in the 3D scanner manufacturer.
The entrepreneur was one of two main investors in the company and invented a range of renowned products, such as the Artec Spider 3D scanner. He has decided to leave the Luxembourg-based firm after a particularly successful couple of years in the company’s history. Klimov oversaw significant growth, and the company’s reaction to the challenge from new competitors, such as Thor3D.
Klimov formed his first company while still in college and has almost a dozen patents in his name. One of his earlier companies, A45Vision, was the first ever venture project in Russia and was later sold to international security company, Safran. More recently he helped to shape Artec 3D and established it as a major player in the 3D scanning market. Artec has committed to providing advanced 3D technology every one-two years, with new software every 12 months.
Now the company and one of its chief innovators will go their separate ways, with Klimov concentrating on new ventures.
“For many years I had the great privilege of being a shareholder and inventor for a wonderful company,” Klimov said. “I, along with a group of talented engineers, frequently toiled into the night to achieve yet another breakthrough. I will always remember those times fondly.
“But now it is time to move on. Over the past two years, I have taken a step back from Artec Europe Sarl (AES) and have formed new companies and invented new technologies. AES seems to be on a new path as well and has announced a new 3D scanner called Leo. I’m sure this scanner is worthy and I wish AES all the success with this new technology while I, humbly announce, that I am selling my 29.5% share in this company, as well as my 29.5% in the distribution company in California called Artec Group Inc.”
Klimov’s relinquished shares in Artec Europe Sarl and Artec Group are currently still available to acquire.
