Artec 3D scanning
3D scanning technology expert Artec has announced that its expertise in capturing 3D images has been adopted by a major automotive manufacturer.
Two different Artec scanners are being used by Hyundai Motor Europe to visualise and modify car seats for new cars from the growing Hyundai family.
The Artec L scanner is used to create a 3D model of a car seat. It is usually scanned from different angles to capture the geometry. The smaller, intricate details of a seat are scanned with the Artec MHT scanner and the data is combined to make a complete, highly precise 3D model of the car seat.
Both scanning devices are portable and easy to use which means that they can be taken to different locations.
The outcome of the Artec 3D scanning process is very reliable, as it is supported by precise measurements of the scanned object for following evaluation. The seat model is measured and compared with a prototype in order to meet quality requirements such as comfort and ergonomics and then its shape or contour is adjusted up to the standard.
Last week at TCT Show + Personalize, official Artec reseller EuroPac claimed the company's handheld Spider and Eva 3D scanners are a "breakthrough" in 3D scanning technology.
