Solidworks software is encouraging education in STEM subject areas.
Today marks a huge milestone for Dassault Systèmes as the world leader in 3D design software solutions announced that two million Solidworks 3D design application licenses have now been installed at educational institutions across the globe.
Solidifying its commitment to STEM subjects, Solidworks applications provide educational institutions with the tools for engineering, design, documentation and simulation in a simple software package.
Video tutorials, guides, project files, demo clips, the Solidworks STEM Teacher Blog and other support resources help educators to teach integral skills whilst students have access to 3D CAD, simulation and design tools for hands-on product design training.
“In education, we want to stimulate bright ideas and creativity by providing students with the same easy-to-use design tools used by professional engineers,” said Gian Paolo Bassi, CEO, Solidworks, Dassault Systèmes. “Solidworks applications help students complete challenging projects like fully functional robots or solar-powered race cars and, in the process, learn lasting skills for their future professional life.”
Dassault Systèmes interest in STEM education has led them to encourage young students to pursue this stimulating profession through the Dassault Systèmes STEM program, particularly young women.
“Construction toys develop a child’s interest in STEM subjects, but girls typically lose this interest by age eight and, as a result, today only 14 per cent of engineers worldwide are women,” said Debbie Sterling, founder and CEO of GoldieBlox, creator of toys for young girls designed to teach a variety of engineering skills. “We rely on Solidworks applications to create educational and fun toys with this in mind, and echo the brand’s commitment to creating a stronger STEM community through education.”
The STEM program involves access to community resources such as user group networks like MySolidWorks and the annual Solidworks World user conference. Educators can benefit from training from the Solidworks reseller channel and the support of over 2,300 engineering teams using Solidworks software. Students can also benefit from life-long learning through the Certified Solidworks Associate - Academic program that allows students to demonstrate their expertise with Solidworks applications and their commitment to professional development.
