Dassault Systemes 3DEXP Lab Solidworks
Bernard Charles announces the extension of Dassault Systemes' 3DEXPERIENCE Lab to North America.
Leading 3D software and Product Lifecycle Management solutions company, Dassault Systemes is to extend its 3DEXPERIENCE Lab open innovation laboratory and start-up accelerator to North America.
Dassault Systemes made the announcement at SOLIDWORKS World 2017, taking place this week in Los Angeles.
The 3DEXPERIENCE Lab in North America will open in May 2017 at the company’s US headquarters near Boston. This opening represents the next step in the 3DEXPERIENCE Lab’s growing global presence to nurture entrepreneurial projects with potential to positively impact wider society.
Projects addressing city, life, lifestyle, IoT, Fab Labs or ideation themes will meet the criteria for Dassault Systemes’ 3DEXPERIENCE Lab, and the makers or businesses involved will therefore have valid access to the lab’s capabilities. These include Dassault Systemes’ cloud-based 3DEXPERIENCE platform, technical skills, mentoring and worldwide ecosystems. The innovators will be able to use the lab as part of one or two-year programmes designed to accelerate their product development process.
“North America has been a wellspring for some of the most impactful start-up and entrepreneurial technological innovations of our time. By expanding the 3DEXPERIENCE Lab to North America, we hope to continue this tradition of invention by offering entrepreneurs, makers and start-ups unique resources to work on disruptive innovations, leverage collective intelligence and create an impact on society,” said Bruno Latchague, Senior Executive Vice President, Global Field Operations, Dassault Systemes.
“SOLIDWORKS World 2017, whose community embodies the spirit of innovation, is the ideal venue for sharing the launch of this exciting new endeavour as it also complements our ‘SOLIDWORKS for Entrepreneurs programme.’ It offers mentoring and greater access to the entire scope of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform for start-ups using SOLIDWORKS applications to digitally create smart products.”
The 3DEXPERIENCE Lab will also house a new digital fabrication space designed and set up in collaboration with Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Center for Bits and Atoms. Here, inventors have access to state-of-the-art computer-controlled tools and processes to create product prototypes or refine their product ideas. This Fab Lab will also serve as a laboratory for future hardware-software interfaces, integrating design and fabrication tools into end-to-end real-time systems.
First launched in Europe in November 2015, the 3DEXPERIENCE Lab promotes open innovation, entrepreneurship, and seeks to provide platforms for these people to positively impact society. Enabling innovators to optimise and validate products and processes, the 3DEXPERIENCE Lab has since yielded successful projects in several industries, including additive construction using robots, the 3D printing of personalised organs for surgical simulation and open source drones having capabilities of both a helicopter and an aeroplane.
It was also announced at SOLIDWORKS 2017 that Dassault Systemes’ 3DEXPERIENCE software platform will help Stratasys to optimise 3D-printed production parts as via a new partnership.
