Objet500 Connex3
The first Objet500 Connex3 3D printer from Stratasys to be ordered in the UK will soon be calling St Asaph in North Wales its home.
Design consultancy Design Reality has placed an order with SYS Systems for the industry-changing multi-colour, multi-material additive manufacturing machine. This order follows the purchase of an Objet Connex260 3D printer just 20 months ago, which the company has claimed to be "an invaluable resource".
Taking the industry by surprise with a Solidworks World launch back in January, the Objet500 Connex3 is the only 3D printer that can create brilliantly coloured prototypes in a range of multi-material components using rigid, flexible, clear and durable materials. The machine's colour pallet extends to 46 shades from true jet black to bright yellow, vibrant magenta and hundreds of blended hues, while also allowing designers to create prototypes in varied materials including rubber-like and clear all in one build.
Managing Director of Design Reality Troy Baker said: "Our Connex260 is a real workhorse and has clocked up 4,500 hours in 20 months, however, we now need a bigger machine, both to create extra capacity and take on physically larger models.
"We've had a long-term relationship with SYS and so we asked them how they could help. As luck would have it, the Connex3 had just been released and we knew immediately that it was the right machine for us. The ABS with rubber is what really sets it apart. This will open up a fantastic world of opportunity for us."
Working with SYS Systems ensured Design Reality made the Stratasys Platinum Partner its first port of call when making the decision to source a larger capacity 3D printer, an investment the company knew it had to make to remain at the forefront of its sector.
"Our Connex260 has been excellent, while SYS Systems has been a reliable support partner, so there was really no need to go elsewhere. As the first machine of its type in the UK, I fully expect the Connex3 to propel Design Reality to the top of the pile and provide genuine market differentiation," Baker stated.
