Diamond Plastics GmbH
German manufacturer, Diamond Plastics GmbH, have introduced a new 100% reusable powder for laser sintering.
The powder HDPE HX 17, based on bulk produced polymer HDPE, can easily be processed on all state of the art laser sinter equipment.
Diamond Plastics claim the product will benefit users by being competitively cheaper than other current materials and by being reusable will result in significant savings in handling costs.
The company produces the powder using a scanning microscopy technique to ensure a good flow of material to create accurate layers during the laser sinter process.
Due to its smooth surface, the product will be of particular interest to designers producing master forms for vacuum casting and can be processed at a thickness of 100 micro-metres.
HDPE HX 17 comes in a dark grey colour but can be painted with ease to make unique finished products. It is also resistant to acid, alcohol, oil and gasoline and boasts the ability to be welded and crosslinked with other materials.
Production of Laser HDPE HX 17 currently stands at 500kg per month but Diamond Plastics propose to double this by October. The product is currently available in 20kg cartons.
