The FARO Design ScanArm 2.0
FARO, a 3D measurement and imaging company, has launched the FARO Design ScanArm 2.0, designed to address the needs of product design and engineering professionals.
The Design ScanArm was initially delivered to market two years ago, FARO wanting to implement its know-how to provide a more effective scanning solution for those working to develop and commercialise products. This latest version of the device builds on the original scanner, and is said to offer an improved flexibility and reliability to deliver a better performance in terms of precision, resolution and efficiency.
“In 2016, FARO made a strategic decision that our combination of technology and unique understanding of the needs of design engineers positioned us to facilitate significantly better efficiency in the product design workflow,” commented Thorsten Brecht, Senior Director, Product Design Vertical. “The initial Design ScanArm validated our thinking and we developed the next generation ScanArm based on those key learnings with more flexibility, higher accuracy and improved, user-centric ergonomics.”
Available in three manoeuvrable arm lengths, 2.5m, 3.5m and 4m, FARO has ensured the Design ScanArm 2.0 can be incorporated into a variety of projects, relative to workspace and the specific design objectives of the user. Additionally, it can be used continuously thanks to the option of dual, hot swappable batteries which remove the need for external power, and maximise mobility.
The new device is also said to deliver up to 25% improved system accuracy compared to the previous generation. This increased accuracy, FARO believes, will enable the design output to better match the look, feel and complex geometry of the source object. The incorporation of FAROBlu Laser Line Probe HD, meanwhile, enhances productivity by enabling rapid scanning of up to 600,000 points per second.
FARO’s second generation Design ScanArm is around 25% lighter than its predecessor, meaning a more comfortable scanning experience and improved manoeuvrability. The scanner also boasts integration with a kinematic intelligent probe system for projects that require contact measurement. This system includes a toolless quick release for fast connection and disconnection, allowing the user to quickly transition from contact to non-contact projects with less time and effort.
The FARO Design ScanArm 2.0 is available for immediate quoting, with the company running live web demonstrations via its website.
