H.C. Starck Tantalum and Niobium GmbH has launched a range of atomised tantalum and niobum (Ta/Nb) powders and their alloys designed for additive manufacturing under the AMtrinsic brand name.
AMtrinsic powders include elemental Ta/Nb powders and range from binary over complex multinary to high-entropy alloys, including titanium, zirconium, aluminium, tungsten, and more. The company has suggested the portfolio will continue to expand to provide alloy compositions with unique intrinsic properties as they bid to ‘create the next generation of materials for additive manufacturing.’ Amtrinsic powders are being developed for metal powder bed fusion and metal deposition processes and will be presented at Formnext later this month.
Tantalum and niobium, the company believes, will open up new opportunities in additive manufacturing, citing their high melting points, high corrosion resistance and high thermal and electrical conductivity. Properties like these would enable additive manufacturing users to apply the technology in chemical processing, the energy sector and a range of high-temperature environments. The AMtrinsic powders promise excellent flowability, high tap density, a ‘perfectly’ speherical shape and narrow particle size distribution.
“With this new brand we express our approach to provide powders that allow to combine the unique intrinsic material properties of titanium and niobium and their alloys with the geometric design freedom offered by additive manufacturing technologies,” commented Dr. Melanie Stenzel, Head of Marketing and New Business Development at H.C. Starck Titanium and Niobium GmbH.
“We are very much looking forward to taking this exciting path in further strengthening our position in the field of additive manufacturing metal powders and continuous powder developments with our customers and research partners,” added Dr. Kazuyuki Marukawa, Vice Chairman of H.C. Starck Titanium and Niobium GmbH.
H.C. Starck Titanium and Niobium GmbH will exhibit at Formnext in Hall 11.1 Stand B79 between November 19-22.
Formnext takes place in Frankfurt on 19-22 November. Register for your showfloor ticket here and visit the TCT @ Formnext Conference website to register for your conference pass.
