GrabCAD, the platform for open engineering, is collaborating with the Industrial Designers Society of America in launching a design challenge soliciting designs that “Bring CAD to Color and Color to Design.” This initiative supports the theme of IDSA’s 2013 Northeast District Design Conference, “The Color of Design,” and the winner will be announced at the conference on April 19-20 in Hartford, Connecticut.
To submit an entry, participants are invited to download any CAD model from GrabCAD’s library of more than 8,000 designs, then develop it, rearrange it, cut it, splice it, hack it, but most importantly implement color in a fresh and creative way. Entries will be judged on quality, realism, composition as well as interpretation and value add of the choice of color and rendering to create a true product differentiation with the choice of color. The winner will be awarded a full custom spec build with BIKEID bike, KeyShot license and free pass to the 2013 Northeast District Design Conference April 19–20 in Hartford. Judges for the contest include Adam Wendel, Senior Industrial Designer at Fahrenheit 212 and Chapter Chair, IDSA NYC; Robert Nightingale, Creative Strategist, RBRTNGHTNGL, IDSA NY; Allen Zadeh, Co-Founder at LOVARO LLC; Gina Reimann, Design Director at Redscout; Stephan Clambaneva, Director, Global PLM Industry Consultant, Dassault Systemes and IDSA’s Northeast District V.P. and Nicholas Oxley, Senior Engineer at Quirky.
“Color is a core element of the design process, and we’re looking forward to seeing how the GrabCAD community uses it in new ways,” said Stephan J. Clambaneva, IDSA’s Northeast District V.P. “Contests like this are a great way to engage the design community, and we’re fortunate to have a platform like GrabCAD to host such an event.”
