Jesse Garant Metrology Center has launched a new high energy industrial CT scanning service which will provide specialised inspection capabilities for advanced manufacturers.
The company believes it has developed a first-of-its-kind system which can accommodate rapid inspection of mid-size parts, up to 44.5 inches in diameter by 63 inches in height and pairs a 3 MeC cone-beam x-ray source with a large format 2k x 2k flat panel digital detector. These features allow for feasible internal inspection and validation of 3D printed parts, made from both ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
Users of the CT scanning service are set to benefit from a significant reduction in time. Existing high energy CT inspection services typically take somewhere between four and 16 hours to complete scans, but Jesse Garant Metrology Center claims its new system can scan parts in less than 60 minutes. The company also says it will be beneficial for the inspection of complex parts and assemblies since internal components can separated more cleanly, and the inspection of higher density materials not possible with lower energy micro CT systems.
Jesse Garant Metrology Center has targeted a gap in the market with this latest development, enabling inspection of 3D printed parts that would otherwise go into production without any validation. It is the result of a $4.5 million investment and three years of planning, design, development and construction.
“It’s always been embedded in the vision of the company to provide trusted solutions that create meaningful advancements in industry,” said Jesse Garant, President of Jesse Garant Metrology Center. “The new computed tomography is a huge leap forward for mid-size part validation and feasible high-volume part inspection. We’re helping manufacturers qualify and validate parts that either weren’t possible because of limitations with existing technologies or weren’t feasible because the service was too costly or took too much time.”
The system is already live, federal operational permits obtained, and the company is now taking orders from companies during its ramp up period.
