Kwambio to launch ceramic 3D printer at CES
New York-based start-up, Kwambio will launch its new ceramic 3D printer in Las Vegas next week where the annual tech mecca, CES takes place on 9-12th January.
Originally founded as an on-demand manufacturing platform for jewellery and home decor products, Kwambio has developed its own ceramic 3D printer after struggling to find a printer that could print ceramics with high precision and speed. The result is the Ceramo OneTM, which uses binder jetting 3D printing with ceramic powders, to create objects layer by layer with high precision.
Priced at $25,000, the machine offers print speeds up to 160 mm per second at an accuracy of 20 microns. Kwambio says it takes around 2-3 hours to 3D print a cup, making it significantly faster than traditional mould making and casting techniques which take several days.

Products up to 35 x 35 x 38 cm in size can be printed on the Ceramo OneTM and Kwambio believes it has managed to reduce the price of 3D printed ceramics to $0.08 for one square centimetre of object’s surface, compared to the average price of $0.12-15.
The machine operates with special powders developed by the company which currently offers over 100 unique glazes, and finishes in matte, gloss, or opaque. Whilst Kwambio’s business is primarily built on the demand for luxury and fashion objects, the Ceramo OneTM, can also be used to manufacture moulds for casting metal products and parts for aerospace industry.

Backed by TechStars accelerator and numerous angel investors, the launch comes a year after Kwambio launched its factory in Ukraine, the first specialised ceramics 3D printing factory in Europe. A working prototype of the Ceramo OneTM is currently used daily in the factory.
The machine will be available for pre-order later this month. Kwambio will present Ceramo OneTM at CES on Booth #51545.
