Microsoft Windows 10 Creator's Update
The Windows 10 Creators Update will launch new features for the programme in Spring 2017.
Microsoft has acquired Simplygon as it begins to drive forward its intent to adopt 3D technologies as part of last year’s Windows 10 Creators Update announcement.
The Windows 10 Creators Update will launch new features for the programme in Spring 2017. A big part of the update is Windows delivering the ability to create, share and experience in three dimensions and mixed reality. Additionally, Microsoft Edge will be the first browser to fully embrace 3D.
Connecting people faster to those they care about most, and empowering every gamer to be a broadcaster, it is clear why Microsoft has decided to acquire the services of an industry expert in 3D gaming ahead of the update’s launch.
“This acquisition accelerates our 3D For Everyone vision and strategy, which we introduced with the Windows 10 Creators Update at our event this past October in New York,” said Kudo Tsunoda, Corporate Vice President, Next Gen Experiences, Windows and Devices Group. “Simplygon’s technology and talent will strengthen our position in 3D creation, making it easier to capture, create and share in 3D. It builds on and extends our aspirations to empower a new wave of creativity with the Windows 10 Creators Update, Paint 3D and our online creator community at Remix3D.com.”
Simplygon, a Swedish company, is a leader in 3D game optimisation and dedicated to helping creators and users of 3D data across industries optimise content pipelines and streamline workflows. The Simplygon executive team brings a depth of knowledge around 3D creation optimisation, which will contribute to Microsoft’s Windows 10 Creators vision.
“Throughout our journey, we’ve been laser focused on helping developers push the boundaries of 3D,” said CEO Matt Connors, Founder & CTO Ulrik Lindahl, and Co-Founder Koshi Hamedi in an official statement. “From our early days delivering advanced level-of-detail solutions, to the adoption of Simplygon SDK by most leading AAA game development studios, and our more recent expansion into enterprise AR/VR, Simplygon has made automatic 3D data-optimisation increasingly more accessible to developers. Our next challenge is 3D For Everyone, the ultimate accessibility. We’re thrilled to join forces with Microsoft to make this happen.”
