Renishaw Engineering Experience
Renishaw Engineering Experience winners visit HMS Dauntless in 2013
British engineering technologies expert and additive manufacturing pioneer Renishaw together with Young Engineers has launched a competition that aims to inspire the next generation of engineering talent.
The Renishaw Engineering Experience will enable six youngsters to experience a one-of-a-kind week-long insight into the cutting-edge world of engineering. The competition is open to full-time UK students aged 16-18 and the week's placement runs from June 30th - July 4th 2014.
Renishaw and Young Engineers are running this competition at a time when many British businesses are struggling to fill vacancies with suitably skilled engineers, indeed, Renishaw is always on the lookout for engineers and other specialists to fill roles at its 15 bases up and down the country. The company employs more than 3,300 staff globally, 2,200 of whom are UK-based, with subsidiaries in more than 30 countries around the world.
Chief Executive of Young Engineers Rod Edwards said: "Last year's Renishaw Engineering Experience fulfilled all of our aims, as illustrated by one of the winners who wrote to tell me: ‘I cannot state how helpful it was as it helped me to make a decision about which engineering course to follow, as well as opening my eyes to the greater world of work'.
"We are delighted to again partner with Renishaw on this exciting initiative. Engineers are involved in cutting-edge technology in amazingly diverse products and have a major role in helping to tackle global challenges including climate change, health and energy security."
Renishaw's Group Human Resources Manager Peter Bowler said: "In its inaugural year the Renishaw Engineering Experience proved to be an inspiring and life changing experience for the six lucky winners who are now helping to spread a positive message about the rewarding careers that they witnessed during their week-long tour. As a nation we simply have to attract high quality people into engineering, not just by persuading young people of the rewarding careers on offer, but importantly their teachers, families and other influencers."
The Renishaw Engineering Experience is a completely subsidised five-day package of activities that aim to encourage a career in engineering. The experience will enable the six lucky winners to get hands-on experience with successful engineering-led organisations and heritage sites, meet the professionals behind their success and see the products that impact and improve our daily lives. It will once again, culminate in a visit to Renishaw's award-winning facility in Gloucestershire.
Entry is open until March 31st 2014, with selection and interviews taking place in April. Full details can be found here.
