Renishaw Big Bang Fair
March is fast approaching and one of the most talked-about trade shows in the engineering arena is undoubtedly The Big Bang Fair, the UK's leading event for young scientific minds.
Global engineering giant and additive manufacturing pioneer Renishaw will once again be sponsoring the show, upholding its pledge to support the next generation of engineering talent in the UK.
Renishaw's Education Liaison Executive Julie Collins said: "It is increasingly important that we encourage young people to study subjects that will give them the qualifications that they will require for an interesting and rewarding career in engineering and science. Events like the Big Bang Fair really help to spark the interest of young people and inspire them to keep studying STEM subjects."
Taking place at the NEC in Birmingham from March 13th to 16th 2014, The Big Bang (Young Scientists & Engineers) Fair is the largest of its kind, celebrating science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) for young people aged seven-19 in the UK. The show's aim is to highlight the numerous exciting and rewarding opportunities available to young people if they choose a future in STEM. At the event, visitors will experience a huge range of shows and interactive exhibits, in addition to having the chance to meet some of the most renowned scientists and engineers in the country.
Renishaw's stand for the 2014 edition of Big Bang stand will feature a Renishaw Equator gauging system, enabling young people and their teachers to interact with measurement machinery rarely seen outside of an industrial facility. Visitors will be encouraged to directly control the machine with the aim of navigating a 3D maze in the shortest amount of time; a prize will be given for the fastest time each day.
Last year, The Big Bang Fair saw some 65,000 visitors pour through its doors, with people of all ages immersing themselves in the world of engineering and technology. Organisers reported that more than three quarters (76 per cent) of 12-to-14 year olds viewed engineering more positively as a result of their visit.
Renishaw is working with education establishments and national skills providers to both promote the importance of STEM subjects and careers in science and engineering to help combat the nationwide shortage of skilled individuals.
The Big Bang Fair is delivered by over 170 organisations from the public, private and voluntary sectors, including EngineeringUK, the British Science Associate and the Institute of Physics. Booking is now available online at www.thebigbangfair.co.uk.
TCT + Personalize will also be at The Big Bang Fair together with Black Country Atelier, where 3D printing experts will be on-hand to teach curious youngsters all about the emerging technology of 3D printing.
