Samuel, Son & Co, a Canadian metal manufacturing company, has announced a strategic additive manufacturing alliance with Carpenter Technology Corporation, a producer of speciality alloys.
Together, and also in collaboration with Burloak Technologies, an AM company acquired by Samuel in March, the partners will seek to develop and provide end-to-end supply chain solutions for the additive manufacturing market. The recent purchase of Burloak is expected to supplement the partnership and accelerate the two companies’ aims to establish themselves as industry leaders from concept to delivery.
Carpenter, meanwhile, believes its own expertise, that in the field of powder metals and speciality wire, will also contribute significantly to the projected success of the collaboration. Samuel’s manufacturing, metal processing and distribution proficiency will round off a relationship which boasts a range of skills and knowledge suitable across all aspects of additive manufacturing.
“This partnership brings a real shift in approach for customers who are looking for answers that additive manufacturing can solve,” said Peter Adams, President, Burloak Technologies. “The Burloak, Samuel, Carpenter collaboration is truly one-of-a-kind in the metals industry.”
Tony R. Thene, Chief Executive Officer of Carpenter Technology Corporation added: “Samuel and Carpenter have added a new dimension to additive manufacturing in terms of end-to-end capabilities. With the ability to now offer customers the powder of their choosing, material qualification, design, prototyping, and delivery is truly remarkable.”
Now with full access to research and development, as well as design engineering capabilities, the partners’ customers will be able to solve real-time contract needs by utilising their expertise across a whole spectrum of additive manufacturing processes. Bill Chisholm, Samuel’s President and CEO, has likened the partnership to a one-stop shop, providing ‘an integrated supply chain solution in an industry with unbelievable potential.’
All three companies playing a role in this partnership will be present at the Paris Air Show, which gets underway today. Carpenter Technology will be displaying its aerospace and powder capabilities from Hall 5, Stand E232, and Samuel, Son & Co. and Burloak Technologies will be showcasing their capabilities in Chalet B19.
