Christian Schmitz will head the Laser Technology/ Electronics division effective from July 1st 2017.
Machine tool manufacturer, TRUMPF has announced a Group Management shake-up, which will reinforce the interaction with its growing customer base, effective from July 1st 2017.
With Heinz-Jurgen Prokop and Christian Schmitz making the step-up, TRUMPF’s managing board increase from five to six, after Gerhard Rubling’s earlier departure. Both Prokop and Schmitz have been active within the company for several years.
Meanwhile, Peter Leibinger, Deputy Chairman of the Managing Board, will be responsible for driving the development and expansion of new technology fields, and Mathias Kammuller will become the company’s Chief Digital Officer. The new-look management team means the company is now ran by three family members and three external managers.

Prokop will assume responsibility for Trumpf’s Machine Tools division from July 1st 2017.
Prokop, who has also held the post of Chairman of the German Machine Tool Builders’ Association (VDW) since 2016, will assume responsibility for Trumpf’s Machine Tools division. Until now, Mathias Kammuller has been managing this division. Schmitz will head the Laser Technology/ Electronics division, for which Peter Leibinger will retain responsibility until June 30th 2017.
Shifting from operational responsibility for the divisions to responsibility for the company’s growth areas, Leibinger and Kammuller will drive the development of new technologies, such as additive manufacturing, and become the Chief Digital Officer of the company, respectively. Kammuller, also the Chairman of the Mechanical Engineering Industry Association (VDMA), will assume the central role in shaping the TRUMPF digital business models and drive digital transformation within the business.
Lars Grunet maintains his position as Chief Financial Officer, while in addition to her role as Chairwoman of the Managing Board, Nicola Leibinger-Kammuller will become Labor Director. This position has been vacant since Rubling’s parting with the company. Leibinger-Kammuller held the position previously between 2005 and 2007.
Commenting on the expansion of the Managing Board, Leibinger-Kammuller said: “Our primary focus so far has been on products and services. With the new organisational structure, we are taking things a step further and reinforcing our digital interaction with our customers. That is the key message to the market.”
