Free classes on basics of 3D printing.
After kicking off the year with the launch of two new 3D printers, leading consumer 3D printing company, Ultimaker is taking its expertise to the public with a venture into education.
In collaboration with 3D printing cloud operating system, 3DPrinterOS, the company is set to take to New York and San Francisco with a range of free classes that cover the basics of 3D printing.
Classes will support a range of topics for new starters including how 3D printing works, materials from PLA to carbon fibre, what can be made with 3D printing and the basic terminology that comes with it.
3DPrinterOS has already been teaching free classes in collaboration with Shapeways, Brooklyn Public Library and Foxsmart Filament. The classes are targeted at new users, providing the opportunity to come in and ask questions and see how the print process happens. Each attendee is given free access to 3DPrinterOS and their own 3D printed object to take home.
The company is also working to expand these classes online to provide the same 3D printing education to users who may not have access to the current class locations. The online portal will include tutorials on the basics of the technology, printer specific walkthroughs and tips on how to repair the machines.
“We’ve seen tremendous interest in these classes in the past few months in New York, people want to learn about 3D printing and ask questions about how this technology could change their lives,” said 3DPrinterOS CEO John Dogru on the Ultimaker blog. “Collaborating with Ultimaker for these classes gives our audience the ability to see 3D printing in action on some of the best machines in the world.”
The first class will take place on February 28 at the Brooklyn Public Library where one to one training and an open Q&A session will be provided.
