XYZprinting, a manufacturer of desktop 3D printers, has unveiled its latest product at IFA 2017, claiming it to be the world’s first full-colour 3D printer.
The launch of the da Vinci Color machine was broadcast live on the company’s Facebook page, and detailed the evolution of colour in the context of technological developments. ‘It happened before, it will happen again’ was the message of the presentation, suggesting the da Vinci Color was the latest step in the chain, which begun with the first glimpse of colour in cinema back in 1902.
XYZprinting says it has combined inkjet printing with the fused filament fabrication (FFF) process in the 3DColorJet technology that provides the platform for its new machine. Per a company press release, 3DColorJet enables the da Vinci Color to mix and deposit CMYK colour droplets onto PLA filament to build parts, achieving the full-colour spectrum of 16 million colour shade possibilities. Combining colour detail with 3D printing technology, XYZprinting believe a breakthrough has been achieved in the 3D printing industry, and for small businesses.
“With its 3DColorJet technology, the da Vinci Color is a breakthrough in 3D printing technology as it provides full colour spectrum accuracy at an affordable, small business-friendly price, that is unmatched by any other colour 3D printer in the market,” said Simon Shen, CEO of XYZprinting. “Just as we did with the da Vinci 1.0 in 2014, the da Vinci Color is poised to change the 3D printing industry again and allow you to turn your creativity into colour 3D.”
The da Vinci Color includes features common to many other XYZprinting products, such as its hands-free auto calibration, EZ removable print bed and a colour LED screen of five inches. It is also supported by the company’s XYZmaker software program. The print bed boasts a 7.9in x 7.9in x 5.9in build volume, and the printer also includes a non-toxic filtration system.
XYZprinting has priced the printer at just under US $3,000. The company has also revealed price specifications for the printing materials, which include PETG as well as three grades of PLA, and ink. Material will cost $35 per 600g spool and ink cartridges will cost $65 per colour cartridge.
The da Vinci Color will be showcased at IFA 2017 for the duration of the event, from September 1 – September 6 at the Berlin Exhibition Grounds, Hall 13 Booth 102, Messedamm, Berlin.
