New ENGO smart glasses feature 3D printed titanium temples

Smart glasses manufacturer ENGO has launched a new pair of augmented reality running glasses with additively manufactured temples.

The temples, sometimes referred to as the 'arms' or 'sides', are the structures that sit across the face and hook behind the ears to hold the glasses in place.

Inspired by aeronautical design, ENGO has leveraged metal 3D printing to print the titanium temples of the Engo Titanium glasses. The result, ENGO believes, is the lightest augmented reality running glasses ever made.

To ensure a light weight of 28.9 grams, ENGO has excluded a set of 'unnecessary features' that include cameras, audio, and AI to instead focus on battery life and comfort so 'athletes can seamlessly focus on their performance.' Among the remaining capabilities are a colour HUD, live performance data, and a customisable display of 40+ metrics. Traditional sports glasses weigh between 25 and 40 grams on average without smart features.

Thanks to Engo’s light AR technology, also featured in the current Engo product range, Engo Titanium enhances road runners’ and cyclists’ 'experience with a customisable interface' (via the companion app) that displays critical information in real time within their field of vision. This includes heart rate, pace, cadence and more to enable them to reach their training goals. Beyond standard data, Engo Titanium is also said to integrate advanced widgets that allow users to follow structured workouts, such as interval training, and adjust their pace in real time, without taking their eyes off the road.

Éric Marcellin-Dibon, co-founder of ENGO Eyewear, said, “With Engo Titanium we redefine what it means to wear performance glasses. Our design is so light and seamless that athletes forget they’re even there while still delivering the most relevant data, anticipating their needs, and keeping them fully focused. For an endurance athlete or road cyclist, we believe that means the right information in your field of view, exceptional comfort and enough battery life to forget about the technology altogether.”
