Automotive design specialist SurfDev has announced that it has invested in a new GOM Atos scanner.

The GOM Atos 5Mp Compact scan system is portable and will therefore allow measurements and 3D scanning services to be carried out both on and offsite.

SurfDev - which has been performing 3D scanning, design and reverse engineering for many years - claims the technology defines a "new class of scanner" for both inspection and 3D measurement applications.

It is lightweight and has a compact construction which will allow the business to widen its reach thanks to the GOM Atos' adaptability for the 3D measuring of components such as casted and injected moulded parts, forms and models, interiors, sculptures, concept models, prototypes and design models.

The advanced hardware of the GOM Atos scanner is combined with totally integrated, powerful software for 3D scanning and inspection to form a complete package.

And allied to the new scanner, SurfDev has acquired touch probe (CMM) technology that works directly with the optics of the GOM Atos scanner and allows the user to measure and capture even hard-to-scan and hidden areas.
