Smoothing Beautifier
Sculpteo are one of the industry’s most interesting companies, ever since CEO Clement Moreau founded the company in 2009 the service has consistently been evolving, listening to customer feedback and making steady progress in offering 3D printing as an online service.
The latest offering from the company that counts itself as one of Carbon’s few beta service customers, is offering a new finishing process for parts printed in SLS. The ‘Smoothing Beautifier’ is a patent pending process that gives SLS parts an injection moulded-like finish as the physiochemical process transforms the powdery texture of polyamide parts.
Having visited the booth here at RAPID to inspect, this is not just marketing talk, the parts are exceptionally finished, the texture also accentuates finer details of parts and gives a better feel in the hand.
If a customer wishes to have their SLS part finished with the new process only an extra day on top of Sculpteo's guaranteed 48 hour delivery is required to make the parts smooth. It is currently available in white but is expected to be rolled out across the range throughout the year. The parts are processed by hand but we're informed Sculpteo expect shortly to be able to automate.
The decision was made to develop the process after consistent customer feedback pointed them towards better finished parts, just another example of how the company desire's to meet its customers' needs.
Sculpteo co-founder and CEO Clement Moreau said, “Our customers are constantly looking for ways to close the gap between prototyping and production to accelerate their own business growth. This new finishing technology gives SLS-parts the look and feel of high end production parts which means they can be used as part of the production process, saving time and the expense of injection moulding.”
Serge Renouard, CEO of Invoxia, a maker of innovative telecommunications products, speakers and connected devices and an important Sculpteo user said, “The Smoothing Beautifier process from Sculpteo gives 3D printing a new touch. Prototypes and small series can now be manufactured using 3D printing with a finish as good as with injection moulding. Once again Sculpteo offers the fastest solution to go from the idea to the final product.”
